Patient Education

  • Annual GYN exams-  An annual exam will involve different components depending on the age and needs of the patient.  Typically, the focus is on reduction of health risks factors and prevention of disease.  It is also a good time to have questions answered about health issues.

  • Common questions about Bacterial Vaginosis – This is the most common vaginal complaint in women of childbearing age. It is associated with an imbalance of bacteria normally found in the vagina. Increased risk can occur from having a new partner, multiple partners, or douching.  If you have an unpleasant odor and abnormal discharge contact a health care provider.

  • Birth Control 101 – Birth control methods can be divided into permanent and nonpermanent methods.  The permanent methods are tubal blockage and ligation in women and vasectomy in men.  There are many methods of nonpermanent birth control.  Hormonal contraception includes pills, shots, implants, vaginal rings and patches.  Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are long term contraceptives that can be hormonal or nonhormonal.  Barrier methods include condoms and diaphragm. We can discuss these methods with you and help with your decision about what will work best for you.
